Stills are making their way onto the web of Pedro Almodovar’s latest film, “Los Abrazos Rotos,” translated as “Broken Embraces.”
I loved “Volver” so much, after never really watching any of his films and I thought Penelope was absolutely marvelous in it. So i’m really looking forward to this one.

Denzel Washington has signed on to star in “The Matarese Circle,” based on the Robert Ludlum novel.
“The project revolves around two secret agents — an American and a Russian — who must work together to fight a mysterious group of killers known as the Matarese. The twist: The agents, Bradley Scofield and Vasili Taleniekov, have been nemeses for years, with each responsible for killing someone close to the other. According to those familiar with the pitch, Washington would play Scofiel,” says The Hollywood Reporter.
Michael Brandt and Derek Haas are writing the screenplay. The two previously worked together on “3:10 to Yuma” and the upcoming Angelina Jolie film “Wanted.”

The Bad and the Ugly has scored some first looks pictures of Matt Damon in the Paul Greengrass film “Green Zone.”
“Green Zone is the story of a pair of CIA agents on the trail of certain Weapons of Mass Destruction and a foreign correspondent following their mission,” states the website.
Paul Greengrass is most famous for his Oscar nominated direction of “United 93″ and the last two Bourne films.

Billy Crudup has signed on to Michael Mann’s crime drama “Public Enemies” for Universal.
Crudup will portray former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.
Rounding out the cast are actors Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, Steven Lang, Christian Bale, and Marion Cotillard.

Oscar winner Thomas Haden Church (“Sideways”) is starring opposite Kate Hudson in Scott Alexander’s and Larry Karaszewski’s film “Big Eyes.”
“Church will play Walter Keane, who became a celebrity in the 1950s and ’60s because of a series of paintings of big-eyed children that became a mass-market phenomenon,” states Variety.
Church will next be seen in theaters on April 11th, in the film “Smart People,” directed by Noam Murro.

Giovanna Mezzogiorno (“Love in the Time of Cholera”) has joined Marco Bellocchio’s “Vincere.”
The film is about the illegitimate child of Benito Mussolini, who he fathered with his mistress Ida Dalser (played by Mezzogiorno). The child, along with his mother, was held hiding in asylums by Mussolini until they both died.

Universal Pictures is currently in development on “Kill the Messenger,” the true story of journalist Gary Webb, who wrote for the San Jose Mercury News.
“The San Jose Mercury News reporter committed suicide after being the target of a smear campaign when he linked the CIA to a scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and import cocaine into California,” states Variety.
Peter Landesman is adapting the screenplay from two optioned novels, “Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion” by Webb, and “Kill the Messenger: How the CIA’s Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb” by Nick Schou.
